Hell to Pay
Somewhere in between the “Hammer Lane” and the “Road to Damnation” storyline, Johnny Blaze found himself in trouble with the law in a town called Lynchburg, Tennessee. Bedelstraum is a lawyer, he was working that day for a client named Clay who got arrested for being suspected of being a culprit to a murder that happened. There was a murder at a bar where a bartender got shot and killed. Clay didn’t have an alibi to help himself and Bedelstraum decided to make a deal with Johnny Blaze who was also locked in the precinct that night. Johnny would provide Clay an alibi that he was with him when the murdered happened and Bedelstraum would repay him back by representing him for free.

In the following days, Clay and Johnny get in trouble with Arvis again. They get arrested for carrying an unlicensed firearm. However, Bedelstraum pays their bail and rushes them both out of the precinct before the crime lab can analyze the firearm. The firearm was the weapon that was used to killed the bartender a few days ago. Bedelstraum gave it to Clay and told him to frame Johnny in being the killer. Clay shot Johnny and then shot himself in the head. The following morning, Bedelstraum and Strahorn met up and tried to strike a deal. We don’t know what they were trying to bargain at this point.
